LAHORE: In a deeply disturbing incident, a woman influencer was arrested on Thursday in Lahore’s Defence area after being accused of torturing and killing multiple animals in her home. The arrest was made following a formal complaint by JFK Animal Rescue and Shelter, an organization dedicated to animal welfare.
According to officials, the case came to light after graphic videos surfaced on Instagram, allegedly posted by the woman herself, showing the abuse and killing of domestic animals. The footage sparked immediate outrage on social media, prompting animal rights groups to take action.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi responded swiftly to the report and led a raid on the residence. The police recovered several animals, including kittens, rabbits, snakes, and even eagles. Many of the animals were injured and required urgent care.
The JFK Animal Rescue and Shelter shared an update on Instagram, stating, “An extremely horrific situation unfolded after an influencer was seen abusing and killing animals, including bunnies and cats. The account @dejaylazawal posted this gory content. Upon contacting ASP Shehrbano Naqvi, the DHA police arrived at the location, and what they found was far worse than expected.”
The shelter reported finding drugs, cigarette remains, blood stains, and animal corpses at the scene. The influencer was allegedly laughing during the raid, while her father attempted to shield her from authorities. The organization questioned whether the acts were part of a ritual or the result of a mental health issue, though the investigation is ongoing.
Zofishan Anushay, the head of JFK Animal Rescue and Shelter, expressed concern that the woman may have been involved in spiritual or ritualistic practices. She emphasized that such acts of cruelty will not be ignored or forgotten.
ASP Naqvi confirmed that all surviving animals were rescued and sent for treatment. Injured rabbits and kittens were transferred to the Police Animal Rescue Centre, while wildlife authorities took custody of the snake and eagles.
Police have since registered a case against the woman and transferred her to a mental health facility, noting that she appeared mentally unstable and had previously escaped from a rehabilitation center. Authorities clarified that the woman had been living alone and that her father and brother were not implicated in the abuse.
The investigation continues, with law enforcement and animal rights groups demanding accountability and justice for the animals harmed in this horrific case.
