Pakistan is preparing to roll out its first-ever satellite-based internet service, with Elon Musk’s Starlink expected to begin operations in the country by the end of this year, sources have revealed to The Insiderz.
Starlink has formally expressed its commitment to operate within Pakistan’s legal and regulatory framework and has already submitted its registration application to national authorities.
Currently, the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (P-SARB) is finalizing an international satellite regulatory framework. This framework will provide the foundation for licensing satellite internet providers in the country. Once completed, Starlink is expected to be officially registered with P-SARB, after which the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will issue the company an operational license.
As part of the preparations, P-SARB recently held a workshop at a local hotel, attended by Federal Minister for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and representatives from major satellite companies. Leading global firms such as Shanghai Telecom, Amazon, and OneWeb have also shown interest in entering Pakistan’s satellite internet market. However, Starlink is the first company to have officially applied under the country’s upcoming regulatory structure.
There is growing speculation that Elon Musk may personally attend the official launch event in Pakistan later this year.
Already active in several South Asian countries, Starlink’s arrival is expected to revolutionize internet access across Pakistan—particularly in remote and underserved regions. The service is anticipated to play a vital role in improving digital infrastructure, accelerating digital transformation, and supporting economic growth through enhanced connectivity.
Officials have also assured that Starlink’s operations present no security concerns to national agencies and will align fully with Pakistan’s regulatory and strategic interests.
